Godman Held For Duping People

Hyderabad: Neduri Srinu, a self-styled godman, was arrested on Friday for duping people. The accused is a native of East Godavari district is a notorious inter-state swindler. Police have seized one kg of gold.

"Srinu used to make people believe that he would double their gold ornaments by performing a pooja. Whenever the devotees visited him, he used to mix sleeping pills in the 'tirtham' or 'prasadam' and offered to the devotees. After they fell unconscious, he used to decamp with their gold ornaments,” said M Venkateswarlu, Assistant Commissioner of Police.

Thereafter, the accused used to directly head to Varanasi or Madurai. He would then hatch a plan and go to new places to dupe people in a similar way.

With Srinu's arrest, police claimed to have detected 11 such cases he was involved in both the Telugu states.
