Frustrated Over Govt’s Apathy, 2 Women Attempt Suicide At AP Secretariat  

Amaravati: Two young women attempted to commit suicide in front of AP Secretariat after they were denied entry by the security personnel when they tried to meet Chief Minister N. Chandrababu here on Tuesday.

The women, identified as Shakira(25) and Fathima(20) from Nandyal in Kurnool district, took the extreme step by consuming pesticide they carried with them after the security staff at the Secretariat stopped them at the entrance. They were trying to meet the CM, they said, for several months regarding a job for one of them on compassionate grounds as their father died while serving in government as a VRO some 20 years ago. Their father Mahbub Fira of Koilakuntla died while working in agricultural department.

At the time of Fira's death, the government refused job to anyone in the family as one of the daughters was married and the younger one Shakira was a minor. The sisters were running from pillar to post for about a year now seeking a job as Fathima attained majority. No one gave them a sympathetic ear nor did the girl get a job, said Fira's wife, who also accompanied her daughters.

This was the fourth incident wherein time victims of government's apathy attempted suicide at the Secretariat in the past two months. The condition of the women was stated to be critical. They are undergoing treatment at a hospital.
