Fire Sweeps Through Pharma Unit

Hyderabad: A major fire swept through a factory at Ramreddy Nagar in Jeedimetla Industrial Area in the wee hours of this morning.

Fire, coupled with explosions, ripped through the factory — Newtech Pharmaceuticals Private Limited. Locals panicked upon witnessing the flames as high as a few metres as smoke continued to billow from the factory. Following information about the fire by local people, fire fighters from various locations rushed to the place to bring the situation under control.

It is learnt that five workers who have been partially injured following the mishap have been shifted to a private hospital. Property and industrial equipment worth crores of rupees is said to be damaged due to the fire.

As many as eight fire tenders were put into action to douse the flames, police said. According to the police, the company failed to follow standard instructions to curtail such mishaps. The company also failed to put safety norms in place to protect the workers from such fires. The factory has ignored all safeguards related to preserving chemicals.

The police have registered a case and are investigating.
