Fake cops steal Rs 7.5 lakh cash from jeweller

Hyderabad: Two pseudo police officials decamped with Rs 7.5 lakh from a jeweller at Mahankali on Wednesday. The victim, Gopinath(46) is a native of Salem, Tamil Nadu who often comes to city to purchase silver ornaments.

The victim who was on his way to a rented house at Subhash Road in an auto was carrying Rs 20 lakh. As he disembarked, two men posing as police officials waylaid Gopinath and checked his bag saying he was carrying contraband. Meanwhile, one member diverted the attention, while the other stole Rs 7.5 lakh cash.

“The offenders pocketed with Rs 7.5 lakh cash and then handed over the bag. After reaching his place, he checked his bag and found the cash missing,” said Mahankali ACP V Tirupati Rao.

The police have registered a case under sections 420 (cheating) and 379 (theft) of the IPC.
The police said that they have the got the footage recorded in CCTVs and they suspect that the fraudsters knew that the victim comes to the city often, hence they sketched the plan.
