Malkajgiri MP’s Relative Commits Suicide Along With 2 Children

Hyderabad: Sravanthi Reddy (28), wife of Venkateswar Reddy, a faculty member at Mallareddy College of Engineering committed suicide on Sunday along with her two sons following harassment meted out by her husband. The incident took place at their house at West Venkatapuram near Alwal.

Before committing suicide, the woman took a WhatsApp video and sent it to her parents narrating her ordeal at 6.45pm. Later, Sravanthi pushed her two children from their three-stored building into water sump and then she plunged into the sump. The children - Sravan aged three and half years and Nakshit was one and half years old.

The video shows Sravanthi’s sons telling how their father physically assaulted them by pressing on their necks with his foot. In the text, Sravanthi said that she decided to end her life after drowning her two children as her husband tortured her by pouring hot oil on her and also attempted to kill her sons for additional dowry

Petbasheerabad ACP A. Srinivasa Rao said, “The video shows Sravanthi's sons telling how their father physically assaulted them by pressing on their necks with his foot. In the text, Sravanthi said that she decided to end her life after drowning her two children as her husband tortured her by pouring hot oil on her and also attempted to kill her sons for additional dowry."

After seeing the video, woman's family members rushed to her house only to find them drowned in the sump. Police have filed a case and took Venkateswar and his parents into custody.

The deceased got married to Venkateswar five years ago and reportedly was a close relative of Malkjagiri MP Ch. Malla Reddy, who is also the owner of the college where the accused was working as a lecturer.
