Kadapa: In yet another case of Dalit lynching, Y. Vijay Kumar (19) was bludgeoned to death for having an affair with an upper-caste girl.

The girl’s father Mahesh Reddy and uncle Sambasiva Reddy hatched a plot to kill Vijay on the intervening night of March 10-11 in Buddayapalli village of Khajipet Mandal, in Kadapa district.

Vijay, a first year student at the Sahitya Degree College, was in love with the girl (18) for the past two years . The parents, who learned about it, had stopped sending the girl from going to school. However, they came to know the duo continued their affair secretly. Despite resistance and repeated warnings, the girl was adamant about getting married to the boy. consequently, the parents came up with a plan to kill him.

Deputy SP of Mydukur division K. Srinivasulu said that they made the girl invite Vijay to their house. Upon his arrival they beat him up and strangled him to death and locked up the girl in a room.

To making it look like a suicide, they then dumped his body the next day at a railway track. Vijay’s mother who works as a farm labourer filed a missing complaint about her son and also blamed the girl’s parents for his son’s death. She even told the police officials that they had threatened him of dire consequences if he continued his relationship with their daughter. The girl’s parents Mahesh Reddy and Subaratna Reddy, and uncle Sambasiva Reddy have been arrested. They confessed to the crime and have been sent to judicial custody.
