Dalit Attacks Backlash: Anandiben Patel resigns as Gujarat CM

Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel - Sakshi Post

The offer to resign comes at a time when Anandiben is facing flak for being unable to prevent attacks on Dalits. She said she was ageing and would like to be replaced. Anandiben would turn 75 this November and elections are scheduled next year.

Anandiben became the chief minister after Narendra Modi resigned to become Prime Minister of the country. Ever since she took over, Anandiben faced Patel stir and the Dalit agitation. Her administration has also been criticised for various acts of omission and commission.

Will she be made a Governor?

Anandiben is a stauch supporter of Modi and has stood by him when he faced criticism from senior leaders Keshubhai Patel and Suresh Mehta.

BJP national president Amit Shah said he was in receipt of the resignation and said the party Parliamentary Board will take a decision.

Indications are that Anandiben could be sent as a governor. BJP senior leaders in Gujarat - Vijay Rupani, Saurabh Patel and Nitin Patel are in the race for the CP’s post.
