Video Call, Voice Records As Proof Of Dowry Harassment In Amalapuram Suicide Case

Amalapuram: The suicide of a woman, Aruna Devi, yesterday at Amalapuram has been taken up for investigation by the police. The police declared that Arunadevi committed suicide unable to bear the dowry harassment from her husband's family.

Cases have been filed against Arunadevi's husband Perumallu, her in-laws and Perumallu's sister. The police are collecting more evidence in the case.

Cops also recorded the statements given by the victim's family members. The son-in-law always harassed Aruna Devi for extra dowry, the victim's father told the police. Arunadevi's smartphone is expected to yield valuable data in the case. Based on the call data, the police are investigating the case. The body was kept in KIMS hospital for postmortem since her relatives demanded the in-laws return to India.

Aruna Devi had concealed the truth about the harassment she was being subjected to. On Wednesday, she asked Perumallu to speak to her, but he was not willing to accede to her request. Then Arunadevi spoke to her husband on a video call and when he referred to dowry, a depressed Arunadevi said "I am committing suicide" in the video call and hanged herself.

Perrumallu informed Arunadevi's parents broke open the door and found Arunadevi hanging. She was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her suicide attempt.
