Delhi Public School Booked Over Exhorbitant Fees

Hyderabad: A complaint has been filed against Delhi Public School, Nacharam, on Saturday by a city-based activist over steep admission fee.

The complainant alleged that the school was taking `donation' of about Rs 50,000 from parents, of which Rs 35,000 was collected ostensibly for infrastructure and a few other facilities.

We have received a petition from the activist saying that DPS is charging heavy admission fee which is more than the limit prescribed by the government. However, till now neither has any parent approached us with the same problem nor has the activist been able to provide any evidence

“DPS is collecting about Rs 50,000 from parents and is issuing receipts only for about Rs 15,000, the remaining amount is being left unaccounted for,“ said Vijaya Gopal R, an anticorruption and social activist. He added that he had also filed acomplaint against CGR International School with the Madhapur police for the same reason. He said that parents can get their money back if they submit receipts or proofs to the police or district education officer and claimed that schools that are charging exorbitant admission fee have to pay back up to 10 times the donation paid by parents as per the Section 9 of State Educational Institutions Act.

It was on January 12 that the Hyderabad Schools Parents' Association (HSPA) filed first information reports (FIRs) against Sloka, the Hyderabad Waldorf School (Jubilee Hills), Jubilee Hills Kindergarten School, Phoenix Greens School, Gachibowli and Green Gables School, Madhapur, at Jubilee Hills, Raidurgam, and Madhapur police stations alleging charging of unreasonable amounts by the schools as admission fee.
