* Talk to people and Media, Chidu tells G family

Former Finance Minister and once-powerful Palaniappan Chidambaram's comments on the state of the affairs in the party are creating quire a ripple in the Congress Party.

In an interview to NDTV's Barkha Dutt, Chidambaram admitted that the morale in the Congress was quite low and felt that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi should respond with urgency to make internal changes.

This is the first big comment by a stalwart Congressman on Sonia and Rahul. His comments that Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi should speak up are also being seen quite strong. "They should talk more both to the people and to the media," was his piece of advice.

Chidambaram was one of the key Congress leaders, who opted out of electoral contest in Lok Sabha elections from his Sivaganga constituency in Tamil Nadu. Instead, he made his son Karthi to fight the elections and Karthi lost badly. Ever since, he has been keeping a low profile.

After Shashi Tharoor's praising of Narendra Modi, Chidambaram's comments are seen as the disillusionment within the party over the state of affairs. Sonia Gandhi did not take part in the election campaign in both Maharashtra and Haryana. Rahul did campaign, but his schedule proved quite ineffectual when compared to Modi's whirlwind tour.
