Cashless Wedding: Dalit Couple Ties The Knot Before Ambedkar Statue

Bhopal: Falling short of money, a prospective couple has tied the knot before the statue of the Babasaheb Ambedkar in Sehore in Madya Pradesh.
The couple, Pankaj Jatav(25) and Vijayanti Rajoria took the seven rounds around the statue at a park in the town on July 3. As the bride failed to get aid under the government scheme for marriage of girls from families, the couple decided to marry before the statue with the help of some social workers and community members. They also wanted to send a message against the exorbitant expenses that traditional marriages involve.
The couple had put the proposal before the community members who agreed and said that as the two families weren't financially strong, the ceremony and rituals could be avoided. "We are happy to exchange vows in front of Baba Saheb's statue," Pankaj said.
Several local politicians congratulated the couple on their cashless marriage.
