Burglars Decamp With Gold, Silver and Rs 25 Lakh Cash From Eunuch Welfare Office

Hyderabad: Burglars on Monday decamped with a kilogram of gold, 3.5 kgs of silver and Rs 25 lakh in cash from the Eunuch Welfare Association Office located at Jummerath Bazar in the old city.

The Association chief Jyothi Naik stated in a complaint that 5 kgs of gold, 10 kgs of silver and Rs 50 lakh cash was stolen from the premises. However, in the evening she changed her complaint and stated that only a kilogram of gold, 3.5 kgs of silver and Rs 25 lakh in cash were missing. The police have ropped-in CLUES team and dog squad to aid in the investigation. CCTV footage of the area were also collected. "Association members use the premises as a bank and residence. On Monday, they locked and left the premises at 7:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m. three unidentified men were seen boarding an autorickshaw with several bags in front of the building," police said. Police have managed to track down the autorickshaw driver who said all the passengers were dropped at Secunderabad railway station. Further investigation is underway.

About Eunuch Welfare Association Office: The Eunuch Welfare Association is an institution operating from the same premises since 400 years. It acts as a bank for eunuchs from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka where members of the community deposit and withdraw their savings that consist of cash and gold ornaments. The Association also rents out about 10 shops in the area and also owns the three-storey building which was robbed on Monday.
