BJP Overtakes Congress For The First Time 

For the first time the BJP overtook the opposition Congress to become the number one formation in the Rajya Sabha after Narendra Modi government came to power in May, 2014.

The development came in the wake of BJP MP Sampatiya Uikey taking oath on Thursday after being elected to the Rajya Sabha. He contested the bypoll in Madhya Pradesh which was necessitated by the death of Union Minister Anil Madhav Dave in May earlier this year.

The BJP-led NDA government, which is still short of a decisive majority in the 245-member house, got boosted after Janata Dal (United) forged alliance with it forming the government in Bihar. While the BJP got 58 MPs in the house, the Congress got 57.
