Eluru: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy launched the YSR Vahana Mitra scheme at the Indoor Stadium in Eluru on Friday. The scheme endeavours to distribute Rs 10,000 financial assistance to auto, taxi and maxi driver/owners yearly, to help them pay for their vehicle insurance, road tax, minor repairs and other recurring expenses incurred.

The Chief Minister who reached Eluru on Friday morning, first laid the foundation for the work of the Government Medical College.

Then, at a function held at the local indoor stadium, launched the scheme. YS Jagan was also presented with a Khaki shirt and garlanded by Auto driver association leaders as a token of their gratitude for keeping up his promise made during the Praja Sankalpa Yatra on May 14th 2018.

Speaking in a public meeting after launching the scheme, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said that for those who were unable to register for the scheme due to any reason whatsoever, the Government would be extending the date to October 30.

For those who have registered till date will receive the amount from today itself, he said.

The government issued a GO on September 9 to frame guidelines for the eligibility criteria. The government allocated a budget of ₹400 crore in the annual budget for implementation of the welfare scheme. Of this, SCs would get ₹68 crore, STs ₹20 core and the remaining amount for others.

Out of the received 1,75,352 applications under the scheme, 1,73,102 were cleared.

Deputy Chief Minister Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, Ministers Peri Nani, Alla Nani, Thaneti Vanitha, Cherukwada Sriranganatha Raju, Collector Muthyala Raju, other dignitaries and local public representatives participated in the event.
