Amaravati: The death toll in the Godavari Tourist boat tragedy raised to 24 as seven bodies were retrieved on Tuesday in Andhra Pradesh.

Police said that taking out the boat that sank over 315 feet deep is proving to be a herculean task.

24 bodies were recovered so far and many more could be trapped inside the boat that sank.

Teams of expert divers from the Navy and NDRF are still searching for bodies.

The search teams found bodies floating far away from the accident spot at Kachhuluru in East Godavari district.

One body was found near the coffer dam of the Polavaram project while another was recovered near new Pattiseema. The person was identified to be from Hyderabad based on information they got on an ID card.

One body was found near a crest gate of Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowaleswaram, police said.

Identity of some of the deceased is yet to be established, they said.

The bodies have been shifted to the government hospital in Rajamahendravaram.
