Amalapuram: In a breakthrough in the investigation related to the Amalapuram doctor-family suicide, East Godavari police have arrested a person who is said to be a key accused in this case, on Tuesday.

The accused identified as Varakuti Venudhara Prasad who hailed from Koduru village in Krishna district, was presented before the media on Tuesday by the Police.

It is alleged that Prasad formed a gang with another three members and cheated Dr P Rama Krishnam Raju to a sum of Rs Five crore. Explaining the details, Amalapuram DSP Sheik Masoom Bhasha said that the gang duped the doctor in the name of superstition and that told him that by purchasing the ''Rice Pulling Vessel'' he would gain immense wealth and riches.

This was revealed in the suicide note written by Rama Krishnam Raju's son Dr Krishna Sandeep, and based on the note police swung into action and caught Prasad who was said to be residing in Hyderabad.

DSP Bhasha said they were trying to locate the whereabouts of the other three members, Anantha Ramulu, Shavalis and Srinivas, who are said to be absconding.

On August 30th the bodies of Dr P Rama Krishnam Raju (48), Laxmidevi (45) and their son Dr Krishna Sandeep (25), were found by the doctor’s hospital staff at their residence in Amalapuram.

Dr Raju was the owner of Srikrishna Hospital there and was a well-known doctor in the region. He said to have committed suicide due to financial problems and mounting debts. But what the Police are not able to fathom is as to how he convinced his wife and son to take their lives along with him.

However, the police have not revealed the contents of the suicide note so far. The couple have another son named Vamsi who was also studying medicine.
