99.7 Tolas Gold Seized at Hyderabad Airport, 3 Held

Hyderabad: Three migrant workers were arrested by Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of customs department on Tuesday at RGI airport. The customs officials seized 99.7 tola gold from the passengers who flew in Dubai Hyderabad Indigo flight (6E 025).

As the value of the gold seized from each passenger is less than Rs 20 lakh, none of them has been arrested, but a case was registered against them. Had the criminal gangs placed drugs in the parcel, the innocent passengers would have ended up facing a long jail term

Eight gold rods camouflaged in four power banks and a measuring tape with gold as its core was found during the of scanning of checked-in baggage, said a customs official.
However, during inquiry it was revealed that trio was approached by a stranger at Dubai airport who requested them to give those gift articles to their family at the Hyderabad airport.

Out of the three passengers, two hailed from West Godavari while the other was from Karimnagar

“As the value of the gold seized from each passenger is less than Rs 20 lakh, none of them has been arrested, but a case was registered against them. Had the criminal gangs placed drugs in the parcel, the innocent passengers would have ended up facing a long jail term,” said the customs official.

Out of the three passengers, two hailed from West Godavari while the other was from Karimnagar.
