50 % Drop In Telangana M Tech Seats

Hyderabad: The future of students aspiring to study M Tech in Telangana state has become much tougher with nearly 28 engineering colleges have sought for the closure of 77 electives in M Tech courses. This indicates that for the academic year 2018-19 there would be fall of 50 per cent in seats, thus turning out to be a bottleneck competition for the students. The 28 engineering colleges are affiliated Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) and took up the decision following poor infrastructure among others.

Meanwhile, the college management had countered the state's allegations of poor infrastructure saying that, the state is making stringent norms for the closure of colleges to evade fee reimbursement scheme. "Stringent norms set by JNTUH has forced several colleges to shut the courses. Some of them include mandatory appointment of Ph D qualified faculty, which is a challenge across India," Srini Bupalam, vice-president of All India Federation of Self-Financing Institutions told the media.

Last year in September, a similar fate haunted both the Telugu states wherein the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) announcement has brought a major setback as over 50 engineering colleges were closed. AICTE chairman Anil Dattatreya Sahasrabudhe said the decision was taken following poor infrastructure and less than 30 per cent of admissions for over the last five consecutive years. In fact all over the country 800 engineering colleges were shut down after this norm was put in place.
