5-Yr Girl Dies Playing With Matchstick

Hyderabad: A 5-year-old girl died on Monday after a lighted matchstick fell on K. Divya and her clothes caught fire. Divya succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the state-run Gandhi Hospital. The incident took place on February 25 in Chennapur.

Divya started playing with matchsticks and accidentally it got lit and her clothes caught fire

The girl sustained 90 percent injuries after the matchbox she was playing with accidentally got lit. Divya was a UKG student of Noble High School. The girl was alone at home when the incident took place, said Md. Abdul Hayyum, Jawharnagar inspector.

"Her mother Kavitha went to purchase an item from a nearby shop. Divya started playing with matchsticks and accidentally it got lit and her clothes caught fire. As she heard the child’s cry she came running only to find the child burnt,”Hayyum.

The parents first took the child to Rainbow Hospital, but later the authorities asked them to take to Gandhi Hospital. A case under Section 174 of the CrPC has been registered.
