12-Year-Old Dies As Dupatta Tightens Around Her Neck

New Delhi: In a freak incident, a 12-year-old girl died when the noose she had tied around her neck tightened and she got strangulated in southeast Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar area on Friday.

Vidhi was playing at her home by tying one end of a dupatta with a curtain rod and forming a noose from the other end of it and tying around her neck. She was alone at her home and her parents were out, a senior police officer said.

When her mother returned, she found Vidhi in an unconscious state and informed the neighbours who contacted police. She had a habit of playing by tying a dupatta knot around her neck and she had been cautioned against doing so by her parents, they said.

Police isn’t suspecting any foul play as of now in the matter, police added.
