Vizianagaram Bride Commits Suicide For Sister’s Future

Vizianagaram: In an unprecedented incident, a 20-year-old woman committed suicide by consuming pesticide on Friday to lessen the family financial burden ahead of her marriage.

The incident occurred at Seeshtasitapuram village in Ramabadrapuram mandal in Vizianagaram district. According to the police, the victim has been identified as Indu, daughter of Sishta Tirupati.

A year ago Tirupati had performed her elder daughter's marriage by selling part of his ancestral land. This year, the family is planning to sell the remaining land as his second daughter Indu's marriage was fixed for March 20.

Indu thought that her family would face severe burden if her father sold the land and there would be nothing left for her younger sister. On Friday, she consumed pesticide at her house. On noticing her condition the family immediately shifted to hospital in Bobbili. Later shifted to a private hospital in Vizianagaram for better medical care. However, she died while undergoing treatment that night.
