Anmol Ratan, a student leader from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is in the thick of a controversy over the rape of a fellow student in university hostel. The student leader, a top functionary of Leftist All India Students Association (AISA) is on the run after the girl student lodged a complaint.

The girl, who approached the police and filed a rape complaint said that he had asked her to come to his room. She said he had offered her spiked drink, due to which she fell unconscious. Taking advantage, the student leader raped her. After she regained consciousness, he threatened her with dire consequences if she approached the police. However, the girl chose to lodge a complaint.

Ratan, who is on the run has applied for an anticipatory bail. He alleged that he was being framed due to political rivalry with the girl’s political outfit. He also said he was being framed in view of the upcoming JNU elections.

In another development, the girl went to the court and recorded her statement. Taking a serious note of the incident, AISA had already expelled Ratan from the organisation.
