With the government advocating digital transactions, mobile wallet space is getting increasingly popular and the digitally not-so-savvy also began to get familiar with online transactions and the use of mobile wallets.

With the decision to raise transaction limit to Rs 20,000 on digital wallets, the user base of mobile wallets seems to be getting wider with competing mobile wallet companies trying to attract new users by offering discounts and cashback points.

Here are a few mobile wallets every Indian should be aware of.

Paytm — Launched in 2010, Paytm has become immensely popular with the average user. It has a base of over 20 million people, according to DataQuest India.

Paytm, known as 'Payment Through Mobile', enables its users to book air tickets, hire taxi, mobile recharge, payments of bills — electricity, broadband and other services like money transfer, fuel and movie tickets. As far as mobile wallets space is concerned Paytm is currently ruling the mobile space market.

FreeCharge — Started in 2010, the service largely attracts youth in the country with a wide range of promotions. The mobile recharge service would also provide equivalent amount of coupons for every recharge which is a good option for users to save money as well as pay bills.

Mobikwik — Another online online bill payment and mobile recharge wallet which has 30 million users and over 1 lakh retailers. Mobikwik also provides information about e-retailers.

Samsung Pay is yet another handy, mobile payment and digital wallet service from the South Korean giant Samsung. Users can make payments using gadgets including Samsung-manufactured devices.

Airtel Money — a new mCommerce platform which was collaborated with Infosys and SmartTrust (now Giesecke & Devrient), offers its subscribers to recharge their mobile talktime and also provides option to shop online only if cash is loaded in the wallet. However, to safeguard and security purposes the Airtel Money 4-digit mPin for every transaction.

Ola Money — the service which was launched in 2015, was cab aggregator OLA. Besides payments of cab rides, the wallet also enables it users to pay bills for groceries, flight tickets and other digital payments.
