 - Sakshi Post

The recent news bulletin of the Indian Meteorological Department said that the cyclonic storm Gulab is going to hit the north Andhra-south Odisha coast today evening. The Gulab Cyclone intensified with a deep depression over the north Bay of Bengal on Saturday afternoon and will probably make landfall at Kalingapatnam between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur.

The IMD bulletin further stated that there will be heavy to extremely heavy rains in the coastal parts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh and in south Chhattisgarh. It issued a red weather warning related to flooding and destruction, including the damage to people staying in inland areas and also warned that the cyclone may hit the standing crops.

The Met Department also issued orange alerts to Vidarbha, Telangana, Marathwada and Konkan coast including Mumbai and Gujarat. It further warned the fishermen not go to fishing for the next 48 hours in view of the cyclone.

Coming to the Gulab cyclone, it is likely to be followed back-to-back by a milder cyclonic circulation and starts impacting from September 28. IMD officials expect heavy rains to fall in Kolkata, Odisha and inland regions of central and northern India after the cyclone makes its landfall.
