 - Sakshi Post

New Delhi: Election Commission has barred both Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde-led factions from using the party name Shiv Sena and its poll symbol ‘bow and arrow’ in an interim order on Saturday.

Earlier, Eknath Shinde-led faction had staked the claim to Shiv Sena ‘s ‘bow and arrow’ poll symbol following which the Election Commission asked Uddhav Thackeray to respond to the claim along with supporting documents by Saturday afternoon.

Shinde-led faction had submitted a memorandum to the poll body seeking allocation of Shiv Sena’s poll symbol as his faction is gearing up for the bypoll in the Andheri East assembly seat scheduled for November 3.

Following the order neither Uddhav Thackeray or Eknath Shinde can use the party name or symbol till the dispute is decided by the poll body. However, the Election Commission has said that both the factions shall be allotted such different symbols as they may choose from the list of free symbols notified by the Election Commission for the purposes of the current byelections.
