YSRCP MP Vijayasai Reddy speaking in Rajya Sabha on Monday  - Sakshi Post

New Delhi: Endorsing the Aadhaar and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2019 presented by the Union government, YSRCP Rajya Sabha MP Vijayasai Reddy observed that it was against Constituition to share Aadhar information with private players as clarified by the Supreme Court.

Voicing YSRCP views on the issue, Reddy sought answers from the Centre as to why government was dilly dallying on bringing in a data protection law to safeguard private data of individuals. He asked if the Aadhar Amendment Law was stringent enough to save the offline data shared with private institutions getting into wrong hands.

The Parliament on Monday passed the amendment bill which allows voluntary use of Aadhaar as proof of identity for users to open bank accounts and get mobile phone connection. The said Bill was introduced in Lok Sabha on June 24.

The amendments provide for use of Aadhaar number for KYC authentication on voluntary basis under the Telegraph Act, 1885, and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.
