After a long battle in court for 20 years, finally Amul has won the case and the brand sounding similar to Amul has been asked by Vadodara court today to stop selling dairy products. The court has found that the brand names Anul Taaza and Anul Shakti rhyme with the products of Amul Dairy and Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Limited.

It was in 1998 that Amul Diary noticed that a company by name Shri Shakti Dairy was manufacturing milk pouches which were sounding similar to the brands Amul Taaza and Amul Shakti. Thanks to a report in Times of India then, Amul initiated legal action.

Legal notice was sent to Shri Shakti Dairy and Kuldeep Enterprises for marketing Anul Taaza and Anul Shakti. They countered the legal notice by saying that the names were phonetically different and there was no chance of confusion. In response to the counter Amul moved the court.

After 20 years of legal battle between Amul and Anul, the court passed a judgement last week asking Shri Shakti Dairy and Kuldeep Enterprises, their marketing wing, to stop manufacturing, processing, marketing and packing milk under their brand labels. So no more confusion in the brand name!
