Moneylender Rapes Borrower’s Wife ‘Towards’ Loan Repayment

Hyderabad: A moneylender raped the wife of a borrower for failing to repay the outstanding loan amount taken from him when the victim's husband is not present at her house. The incident took place at Sriramnagar Colony in Dundigal on Tuesday evening.

The victim lodged a complaint with the Dundigal police with the help of her husband on Tuesday midnight. According to police, who registered a rape case against the accused, the woman, whose family with three children was suffering from abject poverty, borrowed Rs.10,000 from the money lender who makes money by lending money to the poor daily wagers in Sriramnagar Colony.

The woman managed to repay the loan amount of Rs 4,500 including regular interest. But she could not clear the remaining sum as her husband, who is also a daily wager, was unable to get work due to the incessant rains for sometime.

On Tuesday night, the moneylender went to the woman's house and demanded immediate payment of the outstanding. She told that they were not in a position to repay the loan amount immediately and asked him for one week time. But the moneylender demanded her to provide surety from any acquaintance. In the process, he got her on his bike and took her behind bushes on the way to the person for surety and sexually assaulted her by tying up her hands. Before fleeing from the spot after committing the crime, the moneylender said to the victim that ''now the loan is cleared'', said the police quoting the woman.
