Hyderabad: City police commissioner Mahender Reddy was on Friday appointed the new DGP of Telangana.

He will take charge from the outgoing police chief Anurag Sharma on Sunday. His appointment will be "incharge" DGP as the UPSC is yet finalise three names from a list of possible candidates sent by the state government. Sources indicate that the state government is rooting for Mahender Reddy as the state police chief since he is credited with introducing several reforms in the police department. For instance, he was a strong proponent for the usage of CCTV cameras in all parts of the city. The city currently has 1.45 lakh CCTV cameras at all important lanes and bylanes. He also advocated and implemented improvements to the infrastructure of all police stations in the city. Consequently, several police stations which resembled haunted buildings have been renovated with improved amenities. As city police commissioner, Mahender Reddy also introduced criminal auditing and special SHE teams to tackle eve-teasing cases.

VV Srinivas will be the incharge police commissioner of the city while outgoing DGP Anurag Sharma will be the advisor for state government on law and order.
