Research scholar Moses Abraham - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: Moses Abraham, a PhD scholar, of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) attempted suicide on Friday evening by slitting his wrist in the classroom.

The scholar was rushed to the university health care centre and was later admitted at a private hospital. Doctors said that he is out of danger.

"One of his teachers was teaching him and some others on research methodology on how to prepare their presentation for exams scheduled in two days. He suddenly took out a blade and slit his wrist and took everyone by surprise," said Pro-Vice-Chancellor Vipin Srivastava.

"I have been informed that the student has expressed apology for his act. Maybe it was due to exam pressure or something else," Srivastava added.

However, students allege that Moses had been restrained from attending seminars, and the faculty member asked him to change his research topic too.

Dr Anupama, duty doctor, who attended Moses at the centre said that he looked depressed when he visited, and citing his condition he has been referred to Asha Hospital for psychiatric counseling.

Moses is pursuing research at Advanced Centre for Research in high energy materials.
