Frauds Extort Lakhs in Guise Of Cops in Vuyyuru, Arrested

Machilipatnam: Two people were arrested in Vuyyuru for impersonating as police officer to extort lakhs of rupees from the people after conducting raids on them.

The accused, identified as K Srinivasa Rao and Balaji Babu, who hails from Vijayawada created fake identity cards of the Vigilance and Enforcement directorate. They posed themselves as the DSP of the department and collected lakhs of rupees from them.

The duo would conduct raids by dressing in formals and also hired a car for the raids on the shops and commercial complexes. They would threaten the shopkeepers of filing cases against them for fraudulent trading and bagged huge amount of money for the last four months. The incident came to light after a rice trader grew suspicious of Srinivasa Rao and lodged a complaint with the police.

"The traders who were defrauded earlier have not approached police fearing of case on them. The case would have been solved if the rice trader have not filed a case," a police officer said.

The two fake officers were caught by police and sent for further questioning.
