Devotees Celebrate As Shiva Linga Is Lit Up By Sun Rays

Siddeshwara temple in Hanamkonda - Sakshi Post

Hanamkonda: Devotees offered special prayers at the Siddeshwara temple here on the occasion of the sun rays falling on the Shiva Linga located inside the sanctum sanctorum; a rare feat that occurs only on two or three days each year.

The Kakatiya era temple is surrounded by hillocks on all four sides which makes it difficult for the sun rays to reach it. The Shiva Linga inside the temple receives sunlight for about ten to fifteen minutes consecutively for a couple of days during the Bhadrapada month of the Hindu calendar.

This magical event that usually occurs between Vinayaka Chavithi and Navrathri every year, was however delayed by a few days this year. This did not dampen the hopes of the devotees who were ardently waiting for the sun rays to reach the linga.

It is reported that on Saturday evening sunlight shone on the Shiva Linga between 5:55 pm and 6:15 pm.
