Suspected Honour Killing in Kurnool District - Sakshi Post

Allagadda: In what is being suspected as a honour killing by the girl's family, a teenage girl was allegedly killed and this came into light here today. Lakshmi Devi (17), native of Kotakondukuru, is daughter of Chakali Lakshmi Narasaiah and Lakshmi. According to police, Lakshmi Devi was in love with Chakali Nagendra of the same village and the couple had told their parents that they would like to get married.

But the girl's parents were not interested in the marriage and opposed it. The young couple ran away from their village two weeks ago and got married in a temple. Lakshmi Devi's parents filed a case with the Allagadda police mentioning that their daughter was a minor.

Based on the complaint, the police brought them to station and counselled them. The couple were firm on their marriage and said that they would live together or else die together. Noticing their stand, the police arranged a meeting with the two families, wherein it was decided that they could marry and live together after the girl becomes a major. On assurance from everyone, Lakshmi Devi went home with her parents on Saturday evening.

On Tuesday morning her dead body was found near village pond. The police came to know about Laskhmi Devi's death and the preparations being made by her parents for the funeral. They intervened and were told by the victim's parents that she had committed suicide by hanging herself. Police did not find any traces of hanging, but realised that she was hit on the head. Suspecting a foul play, the police shifted the body to government hospital for post-mortem. The police have registered a case of suspicious death and based on the post-mortem report they would take action against the culprits.
