T20 World Cup 2021: Why BCCI Dropped Shikar Dhawan, Yuzvendra Chahal From WC Squad

Shikar Dhawan and Yuzvendra Chahal - Sakshi Post

The BCCI has announced the Indian T20 World Cup squad for the tournament, which will take place from October 17 to November 14. After the announcement of the team, cricket analysts and former cricketers were happy with the way of selection, but a few were puzzled as to why Shikar Dhawan and Chahal were not selected.

The BCCI named regular players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Bumrah, Bhuvneshawar Kumara, and Jadeja to the 15-member squad. In addition, Rahul Chahar, Ishan Kishan, Axar Patel, and Varun Chakravarthy are chosen by the BCCI.

However, the two players who played well for India were not selected for the team. Shikar Dhawan recently captained the Indian B team in the Sri Lanka series, where India won the ODI series and lost the T20I series when eight players from the team were affected by corona.

Selectors said that as there was no place for an opening batsman, they didn’t select Dhawan. On the other hand, fans were opposing that and questioning why Ishan Kishan was selected instead of Shikar Dhawan when he had experience.

Based on the sources, there is another reason for keeping Shikar Dhawan aside. Dhawan is a slow starter, but once he settles down, he gradually accelerates and plays in his own style. However, this style of play is appropriate for ODIs but not for T20Is.

Recently, Dhawan and Ayesha parted ways after their nine-year journey. Many think that it may affect his play. So, for those reasons, selectors chose Ishan Kishan instead of him.

Coming to Chahal, who is playing consistently for the Indian team, did not get a chance in the spin bowling unit. Speaking of this, selectors said that, "Spinners who bowl quickly were our priority. Hence, they went with Rahul Chahar. "
