Sri Lankan Cricket Lifts One Year Ban On These Three Senior Players

 - Sakshi Post

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has agreed to reduce the one-year suspension imposed on the senior trio of Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella, and Danushka Gunathilaka, who were all found guilty by SLC's disciplinary committee of breaking bio-bubble in Durham during the team's July 2021 tour of England.

The three players were sighted and recorded while roaming the streets of Durham late at night, despite being advised specifically not to leave their hotel rooms because of the Covid-19 issue in the United Kingdom.

Following a severe social media backlash, the players were immediately asked to fly back to Sri Lanka in the middle of the series. They were suspended from international cricket for one year and domestic cricket for six months and fined ten million Sri Lankan rupees.

Following a request from all three players, the ban has been lifted with "immediate effect," according to an SLC media release. The decision to lift the ban was reached after the board "obtained a report from the doctor, appointed by SLC to provide counseling for the three players during their period of suspension."

"The three players will be permitted to play domestic cricket with immediate effect and will also be available for national selection, subject to meeting statutory fitness criteria," the statement stated.
