Night Curfew In 4 Gujarat Cities Extended Till March 31, Deets Inside

Because of the rising Covid-19 cases, the Gujarat government has announced night curfew in four metropolitan cities — Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, and Rajkot — from 10 pm to 6 am from Wednesday till March 31.

The state saw a surge in corona cases with 954 new infections reported on Tuesday. Surat municipal corporation reported the highest numbers at 263 followed by Ahmedabad Municipal corporation at 241 cases, Vadodara and Rajkot far behind at 92 and 80 cases respectively.

As per the new guidelines, shops, restaurants, eateries, malls and other such public places will be not allowed to function after 10 pm from March 17, and this rule will be in place till March 31. However, chemist shops, milk kiosks, hospitals, and other essential services will operate as usual. Rail and air passengers with valid tickets will be allowed to commute.

Till Tuesday, the four cities had a curfew from midnight till 6 am. A statement issued from the information department of the state government stated, “Due to rising Covid cases in Gujarat, the state government has decided to implement night curfew from 10 pm to 6 am from March 17 to March 31. Till March 16, the old curfew timing of 12 am-6 am will continue.”

A state government official said 1,07,323 people were vaccinated against COVID-19 on Monday, including 89,138 in the senior citizens' age group and 45 years plus in comorbidities groups. So far, 20,69,918 people have received the first dose of the vaccine and 5,15,842 have received the second dose.

Gujarat's COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 2,79,097, new cases 890, death toll 4,425, discharged 2,69,955, active cases 4,717, people tested so far - figures not released.
