Naidu's empty promises surprise many
Telugu Desam Party president Chandrababu Naidu is known for his empty promises and sensational announcements. Some leaders dub Naidu as a copyrayudu (a copycat) while others say that people would no longer trust him.
Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy himself has termed Naidu as one of the most corrupt chief ministers of the State.
Given his background, many Congressmen and his own party leaders reiterate that people are not in a position to believe Naidu. They even feel that Naidu is something when not in power and totally a different character once he assumes power. Chandrababu Naidu announced several schemes and policies much before completing his 10-day padayatra, he said that his party would allocate 100 seats to BCs in the Assembly elections, and even came out with a BC declaration.
During the initial days of his padayatra in Kalyandurgam Assembly segment, Naidu announced reservations for economically backward classes in upper castes in education and employment in addition to fee reimbursement scheme for them.
Recently, he endorsed SC categorization and also announced an SC declaration. Naidu did not stop here. While touring Rapthadu constituency as part of his padayatra, he announced that his party would outline policies to benefit the poor in Brahmin,Vysya, Reddy and Kamma communities.
What is surprising many is that he recently came out with a Muslim declaration and an empowerment policy for them. Interestingly, the policy comprises of an allocation of more than Rs 2,500 crore in the sub-plan for the development of Muslims, and also an allocation of 15 seats for Muslims in the coming elections.
Experts find these pronouncements a bit hard to believe. As if these announcements are not enough, he went on to say that he would strive for eight per cent reservations for Muslims in the Legislature and the Parliament.
SP View: Chandrababu Naidu, who did not initiate any measures for the upliftment of Muslims while in power for nine-long years, announcing a slew of such measures now, has actually raised many an eyebrow. According to Indira Sahni's judgment, there is no provision to give Muslims more than four per cent reservation. Naidu was unable to remember this fact and instead promised more, which analysts feel is aimed at attracting the community vote bank.
Pointing out Naidu's announcements, Chairman of the Pradesh Congress Media Committee Mohammed Ali Shabbir recently alleged that Naidu is raising false hopes in Muslims. Mentioning the Indira Sahni judgment, he said there is no provision given to Muslims for more than 4 per cent reservations. He questioned how Naidu could give 8 per cent reservations to them.
