Meghalaya Governor Resigns Amid Allegations Of ‘Sexual Misconduct’

Amid allegations that he has turned Raj Bhavan into a 'Ladies Club,' Meghalaya Governor V Shanmuganathan has resigned. He is expected to reach Delhi on Friday.

The resignation comes days after 100 members of his staff wrote to Prime Minister Modi accusing the Governor of "compromising the dignity" of the Governor's House and turning it into a "young ladies club". The letter, viral on social media has also listed thee sexual misconduct. He was accused of hiring only young women to positions of power. Shanmuganathan has denied the allegations.

The letter said: "His activities hurt the decorum and prestige of the Raj Bhavan as well as the sentiments of the Raj Bhavan employees who are very much attached to the Raj Bhavan, it becomes our concern. From the time he has taken over, the employees are going through severe humiliation, mental stress and torture."

Shanmughanathan became Governor of Meghalaya in 2015. He was later handed over responsibility of Arunachal Pradesh too.

The BJP sought to defend him saying there were no statements from any woman till now and that facts should be looked into before commenting.
