EC issues revised poll schedule for 18 gram panchayats in AP

  Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission on Wednesday issued a fresh programme for 18 Gram Panchayats where the election process was nullified following allegations of auctioning of posts of sarpanches and ward members.

The 18 Gram Panchayats are in different districts of the state, official sources said.
The SEC said the elections in these villages were nullified as auctioning of posts is illegal under section 211 (1) of the AP Panchayat Raj Act, 1994. It is also an electoral malpractice under section 171-B and 171-E, IPC, 1860.
As per revised schedule, the polling in these villages would take place on August 8 (from 7 AM to 1 PM) and counting after 2 PM.
The election notice would be issued by the Returning Officers on July 25.
The Commission also announced the schedule for poll in villages where election was countermanded due to death of candidates, the sources added.
