Tata Motors Overtakes Hyundai to Become Second Largest Selling Carmaker

Domestic sales increased to 66,307 vehicles in the month under review, up from 53,430 units in December 2020, according to Tata Motors. Commercial vehicle sales grew to 31,008 units in December 2021, up from 29,885 units in the same month the previous year. From 23,545 units in December 2020 to 35,299 units in December 2021, passenger vehicle sales climbed by 50% to 35,299 units.

"Despite a shortage in production due to the ongoing semi-conductor crisis, Tata Motors PV business growth path continues and reached multiple new milestones during the quarter," stated Shailesh Chandra, President, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Business Unit.

"The tremendous market response to Tata Punch, which was released on October 21," he continued, "is driving demand for the company's 'New Forever' range of vehicles and SUVs."
