After Black Fungus, Now Cases Of White Fungus Reported In Patna: Check Symptoms

Even as the Black Fungus infection or mucormycosis infection has affected patients across several states of India, reports of a new White Fungus infection have been reported recently. As the Central government has notified states that black fungus as an epidemic, an infection called white fungus has also been found to affect some people after a few cases were reported from Patna in Bihar.

What is alarming is that this White Fungus is considered to be more dangerous than Black Fungus and is known to affect women and children as well.

Unlike the black fungus, this condition affects the lungs as well as other parts of the body including nails, skin, stomach, kidney, brain, private parts and mouth.

What are the symptoms?

Ulcers and white spots form on the mouth, throat, and tongue. There is swelling of the sinuses and sore throat. Acute fatigue, lethargy, infections of the genitals and urinary tract are also few symptoms.

 Intestinal fungus infection with symptoms of constipation, gas, diarrhoea, skin rashes on the armpits, elbows, and knees could also be seen.

Those who have weak immunity, diabetic patients and those who are taking steroids for a long period of time are more at risk of getting infected. It is also affecting coronavirus patients who are on oxygen support.

Treatment

All patients who are found to be infected with white fungus should be examined carefully, with a fungus culture test of their phlegm or mucus to detect fungal infection in their body, a health department official said.

Patients should be treated with antifungal medicines. It is known to subside with these medicines.

To prevent White Fungus infection it is necessary to sanitise the oxygen pipes and ventilator pipes properly.
