School Holiday on August 19, 2025: Check State-Wise updates!

As the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warns of persistent rainfall until August 20, several states in India have declared school holidays to prioritize student safety. The affected states include Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Kerala, where heavy rainfall has caused disruptions and safety concerns.
Maharashtra Affected by Heavy Rainfall
In Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared that all colleges and schools shall be closed on August 19 because of the heavy rain warning from the IMD. The city witnessed heavy waterlogging, traffic jams, and train delays, and hence student safety is a concern. Other parts of Maharashtra, including Thane and Raigad, have also been put under red alert, meaning very heavy rainfall.
Karnataka and Kerala Too Announce School Holidays
In Karnataka's Kodagu district, the district administration has ordered the closure of all government, private, and aided schools and colleges on August 19 owing to the current heavy rainfall warning. Locals in Kerala, too, have been advised of temporary shutdowns in certain districts to avoid accidents and disruptions due to flooding and waterlogging.
Cultural Holiday in Manipur
In the meantime, Manipur will be a holiday on 19th August to celebrate the birthday anniversary of Maharaja Veer Vikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur. Banks and government offices will be closed, but schools and colleges are likely to be open unless special district-level orders are passed.
Keeping Up to Date With School Timings
Given the IMD's forecast of continued rainfall until August 20, parents and students are recommended to look for regular updates from official notification by respective district administrations or education departments to keep track of any school schedule alterations. More districts in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, and other impacted states will provide last-minute announcements to keep students safe.
