BAI Thank CM YS Jagan For Land Allotted To Start New Badminton Academy in Guntur - Sakshi Post

VIJAYAWADA: Badminton Association of India (BAI) vice-president K Punnaiah Choudhary,  and Andhra Pradesh Badminton Association Secretary Ankamma Choudhury thanked  Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for allotting land for a Badminton academy in the Guntur. They said the efforts of the Chief Minister to develop sports in the state were commendable.He said that by setting up this academy, many badminton players could be produced in the State.

At a state cabinet meeting held on Thursday, the government had decided to allocate two acres of land for setting up a badminton academy. The academy will be named after an international badminton player and coach from  AP, Sudhakar Reddy. For this purpose, a plot of land opposite the Nallapadam police station in Guntur was allotted.

Sudhakar Reddy’s wife Savitri a former badminton player herself will be the CEO of the newly formed academy. She also thanked YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for allocating space for the academy.

Sudhakar Reddy was a former State champion from Andhra Pradesh, who passed away in 2019. He has played a key role in producing several champion shuttlers who have later gone on to represent the country at various stages. He is said to have spotted and groomed India’s top men’s shuttler, Srikanth Kidambi and his brother Nandagopal Kidambi during a talent scouting programme in 2001. He was also instrumental in shaping Satwik Sairajranki Reddy’s career during his formative years.

Last month Olympic Bronze Medallist from  AP, PV Sindhu met the Chief Minister after coming back from Tokyo. She said that the AP government allocated land and very soon she was going to set up a Badminton Academy in Visakhapatnam. The AP government had allotted two acres of land to PV Sindhu, for setting up P. Venkata Sindhu Badminton Academy and Sports School at Chinagadili in Visakhapatnam.
