American Corner in Vizag: US Consul General Joel Reifman Thanks CM YS Jagan For Supporting Initiative - Sakshi Post

VISAKHAPATNAM: Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday launched the first American Corner in Visakhapatnam in the state, which is the third in the country through virtual mode. The facility is located on the first floor of the Andhra University Science College Principal’s office in collaboration and support from the American Consulate. The center would provide information about American culture, values, opportunities in higher education in America, skills in English, books, and education.

US consul general Joel Reifman and USAID Mission Director Veena Reddy, AU Vice-Chancellor PVGD Prasada Reddy, and others participated in the programme.

Speaking from the venue,  US Consul General Joel Reifman said he was grateful to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for supporting the initiative and stated that both governments are committed to providing young people, especially women with increased opportunities in education and employment. He said that the Corner plays a pivotal role in making those opportunities into reality. American Corner here in Visakhapatnam offers space for public gathering and focuses on the development of English language, women empowerment, provides the latest information on U.S. education, and to bridge the gap between the U.S.A. and Andhra Pradesh.

Meanwhile, USAID Mission Director Veena Reddy said that a space like this takes a really great vision and strong purpose towards development. This place also serves to discuss pressing development challenges, elevate our development objectives, and jointly make progress together. She thanked Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and Andhra University for this collaboration. ‘As a daughter of Kadapa district, I am aware of people of Andhra Pradesh having deep interest towards the United States and very excited to be USAID Mission Director for India and Bhutan.’ she added.
AU Vice-Chancellor P.V.G.D Prasad Reddy also attended the event.
