Nearly Rs 2 cr cash seized in West Godavari ahead of polls - Sakshi Post

Rajahmundry (AP), Nearly Rs two crore in cash was seized in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh following raids conducted in various parts in view of Lok Sabha polls scheduled here on May 7.

According to District Collector Siddharth Jain, so far Rs 1.98 worth cash besides watches, sarees, fans, utensilsworth Rs 4 lakh have been seized. Also, 8,693 litres of illicit liquor along with 28 vehicles and 345 licensed weapons were impounded, he said. About 1,278 persons have been arrested and 1,904 cases have been registered after raids across the district by Excise officials.

Poll notification for the second phase of elections in Andhra Pradesh was issued on April 12 setting in motion the process for elections to 175 assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats in 13 districts of Seemandhra on May 7. Meanwhile, Kakinada Circle Prohibition and Excise Superintendent(East Godavari) P S Rambabu said in a statement that raids were conducted from April 1-15 across district following which 2,852 liquor bottles were seized and 251 persons were arrested.

Material worth over Rs 2 lakh for preparing illicit liquor was damaged and 230 liters of IML was also seized, he said.

Police has also seized 16 vehicles during the raids.
