MIM withdraws support to Cong govt in state, UPA in Centre

Delivering a major political shock to the Kiran Kumar Reddy's government, its staunch and long-term ally, the MIM (Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen) withdrew support to the Congress.

MIM President Asaduddin Owaisi withdrew support to the Congress government on Monday accusing Kiran Kumar Reddy and his government for the expansion of the Bhagyalakshmi Temple abutting Charminar in violation of the AP High Court orders.

"We will be withdrawing support to the Congress in AP and  the UPA government at the Center, we have faxed a letter in this regard to honorable President of India. We are writing letter to the governor about withdrawal of support to the state government." Asaduddin Owaisi said.

This marked the formal end of the coalition between the MIM and Congress in the state and at the federal level. MIM has seven MLAs and one MP.

Addressing a news conference, Owaisi said "MIM party is compelled to take the decision due to the communal behavior of the Kiran Kumar Reddy in the government."

Giving all the details of communal riots he said "We have suffered a lot during TDP, BJP alliance. And the result of Majlisddin Muslimen supporting Congress in 2004, they could come back to power. After Rajasekhara Reddy's death, we have seen that in 2010 when Rosaiah was Chief Minister, during Hanuman Jayanti a communal riot took place, properties were damaged and many mosques  and 60 houses of minority community people were damaged. Over 120 people of the community suffered injuries.  As many as 200 Muslim youth were arrested. MIM have took up their case and brought them out on bail," He said.

Asaduddin charged Kiran Kumar Reddy for several incidents that took place in the state. He said "In 2011 on September 5, during Ganesh procession 225 youth were arrested in 22 criminal cases. We have been asking the Congress government to close the charge-sheets. They have replied wrong has been done we will take back the cases. This promise has not been kept up. Same was seen in Karminagar and Miryalaguda in Hyderabad in 2011", he said.

When reporters asked about his ally with YSR Congress Party, he said "YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is my friend and Kiran Kumar Reddy was my friend."

The MIM chief held Kiran Kumar Reddy responsible for the 'cowardly act to please the sangh parivar'.

This move has reduced the government to minority, bringing its total strength much below the half-way mark in the state assembly. Though this could be a major setback to the Congress in 2014 elections, if a no-confidence motion is called for, the government might be under an immediate threat.
