Arrangements for a wedding were underway and the distribution of invites was getting over. The baraat would reach the venue in a few hours and the marriage was about to be solemnised. But it has to be called off at the last minute as the groom wanted more dowry.

In a strange development, a police officer himself had to call off his daughter's marriage hours before the wedding. This took place in East Godavari district.
According to reports, the marriage of Pasala Parveswar of Ramachandrapuram in East Godavari was fixed with a police officer's daughter. Their engagement happened at the officers club in Vishaka in August and the wedding was scheduled for December 12.
Parveswar had already taken Rs 10 lakhs as dowry and the groom's family had started demanding more after the engagement.
Parameshwar works for an aquaculture in Vizag and wanted to set up ice factory on his own so he could supply to the company. Just a few days before the marriage, the groom demanded another Rs 2 crore as dowry, 1 KG of gold and 5 kgs of silver.

The girl's parents made every effort to convince Parameswar but in vain. The boy even threatened the girl's family that they have the backing of political leaders. Left with no option, the girl's parents lodged a complaint.
Police registered a case and launched a manhunt to nab Paraveshwar.
