Pick Opposition PM Candidate After Elections: CPI

Veteran Communist leader Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: Veteran Communist leader Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy favours opposition parties picking Prime Ministerial candidate only after the Lok Sabha elections, saying projecting names before hand is unnecessary and would only confuse voters.

"It's not necessary; it will only confuse the people," the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI) said when asked about sections of the Congress, TMC, BSP and NCP keen to project their leaders.

"In our view, it (the issue of Prime Ministership) is to be decided only after the election...who gets how many seats, it depends on them," Reddy told PTI today.

He said efforts to forge opposition unity against the BJP is progressing well.

The recent no-confidence motion against the government has given clarity on which party is on which side, Reddy said.

"Among non-BJP parties, AIADMK is totally with the BJP... and a very opportunistic role is being played by TRS and there is still confusion among Biju Janata Dal...they are not taking any sides. But all other opposition parties by and large are against the (BJP-led) government. So, I think that was another occasion to show unity of opposition parties," Reddy said. (PTI)
