Cops Clamp Down On Kodandaram’s Amarula Sphoorti Yatra

TJAC chief Kodandaram said the yatra will go on despite the clampdown - Sakshi Post

Police foiled the Martyrs Inspiration Campain (Amarula Sphoorti Yatra) of the Telangana Joint Action Committee at Janagam on Saturday. The yatra was to be launched at Janagam and TJAC leader Prof. Kodandaram was to be the chief guest.

However, the police swooped down on the TJAC district president Akula Satish and 20 others. They were taken to police stations in Bacchchannapet, Janagam, Lingala Ghanapur, Raghunath Pally and Station Ghanpur. Prof. Kodandaram strongly condemned the arrests and said he would take the issue to the notice of the Home Minister. The arrests were undemocratic and stifling dissent smacked of dictatorship, he said. He said though the TJAC had sought permission for holding the campaign, the police dillydallied till the last minute. Kodandaram said he would defy the prohibitory orders and reach Janagam to participate in the yatra.

Meanwhile, to prevent any untoward incident, the police were deployed in large numbers in all sensitive parts of the district.
