No Plans To Wind Up Anna Canteens: Botsa Satyanarayana

Botsa Satyanarayana - Sakshi Post

Amaravati: The YSR Congress Party government has clarified on Wednesday that the Anna Canteens, introduced by the previous TDP regime under Chandrababu Naidu, will not be shut down from August 1.

There have been apprehensions among the beneficiaries that the facility aimed at providing meals at Rs 5 and catering to poor and working classes will be done away with.

Municipal Administration Minister Botsa Satyanarayana clarified that Anna canteens will be in place and a plan will be chalked out so that the scheme reaches out to the needy.

“We will streamline the functioning of the canteens. The TDP government had constructed the canteens wherever they found land. Some canteens are not serving the purpose,’’ Satyanarayana was quoted as saying by a leading daily.

The issue was brought up in the Question Hour in the State Assembly when TDP members Velagapudi Ramakrishna and others said the then TDP government introduced the canteens and claimed that more than 4.36 crore people were benefitted from the scheme.

Meanwhile, YSRCP member Bhumana Karunakar Reddy alleged that the party used the canteen scheme only for publicity.
